Goal Statement

The purpose of the lesson, module, or workshop should be to assist pre-service educators, educators, administrators, or staff in developing an attitude, skill, or knowledge to assist them with the meaningful integration of technology or distance education in the classroom, school, university, or organization. Thus, the lesson maybe developed for a K-12 setting, higher education setting, corporate, or government setting. The project may be designed based on one of the case studies provided in the course (see the assignments, module 8) or be based on a real- world environment of your choice
*I added this in here because our goal seems to be based on student achievement as opposed to teaching educators/admins/staff in developing technology integration/distance education. --Tai

A well stated goal statement includes the following elements:

 Identification of the learners
Elementary students, both high and low

 Identification of the desired skill, knowledge, or attitude Identification of the desired skill, knowledge, or attitude will be applied in context.
Effectively use iPads to differentiate instruction, complete extensions from the lesson, and complete performance tasks to assess what was learned. Analyze and evaluate the quality of work they produce using an iPad.

 Identification of the tools
Using iPads and apps that are available on them to differentiate, extend, and assess students.

Example for our ISD: "When completing a task using iPads the student will evaluate the task and themselves to determine what app to use to extend their learning process"

Identifying Goals:

According to the Instructional Unit there are five questions we can answer to help us create a goal statement.

1. Who are the learners that you want to accomplish your goal?
Elementary school students that require differentiation to extend or supplement the instruction they are receiving from the teacher.

2. What should the learners be able to do, perform, or accomplish?
Learners should be able to evaluate the task as well as themselves to determine the correct application the iPad can provide them.
Learners should be able to perform basic searches on the iPad to locate information and application on the iPad as well as the internet.
Learners should be able to use the iPads to accomplish a performance task designated to them by their instructor.

3. In what context will they be attempting to accomplish it?
The context that the learner will be attempting to accomplish the goal is as a way to differentiate instruction.

4. What tools will be available to them as they attempt to accomplish it?
iPads, their instructor, fellow classmates

5. How could you tell if they did accomplish it?

Possible goal statement depending on app we use in lesson plan? Just trying to think out loud? Any suggestions? Beverly

*What do you think of using Common Core Standards and NETS as opposed to a specific state's standards? Tai

*We have "all students" written above, but is the focus of our ISD "special education students" ?
*Completing the application task is one goal and submitting for assessment is another goal--what if we had a selection of apps that include evaluation (I don't know if these exist, just some thoughts)

Goal Statement
The goal of the ISD team is to provide professional educators with knowledge of best practices to use and implement iPads into classroom practices as an instructional tool and a technology supported device. Presenting best practices and effective use of iPads in instructional practices will help educators meet the needs of diverse learners within a learning environment. Educators attending the workshop will become familiar with the numerous educational benefits provided by iPad devices and applications available for teachers and students across curriculums.
Educators will be introduced to ways in which they can incorporate iPads into instruction, find applications for content areas, use iPads an assessment tool, and differentiate instruction for special needs students. Peluso (2012) identifies the iPad as a means for learners and educators alike to access one of the most intuitive and engaging forms of learning and expression ever available (as cited in Corrin, Lockyer & Bennett 2010, p. 387).

Definitions:Best practice: For purposes of this project, the best practice is determined as teaching teachers to research, implement, and analyze the implementation of technology into the classroom through apps on an iPad.
